Olympijské hry 2016 v Riu už presiahli rozpočet o 51% a celková suma sa predpokladá niekde okolo 4,6mld. USD. Usporiadatelia sa snažia znižiť náklady a to aj za cenu šetrenia na medajlách. Zlatá medajla o váhe 500g obsahuje len 1,2% zlata; 98,8% je striebro. Strieborná je 100% striebro.
