Commodity prices are set to continue to rise above the record highs witnessed already this year, the director of an investment firm.
Last week, gold hit a record high of $1,000 an ounce on the NYSE as investors sought refuge in the precious metal in the face of the faltering dollar.
According to Roland Kitson, director of Close Investments, prices for commodities have yet to peak and will continue to yield grow this year.
He said: "Commodities overall have been an excellent investment opportunity, although the question on investors' minds now must be 'is now the time to invest in gold?'
"Our view is that although gold has reached this all time high, commodities in general still have a long way to go in terms of growth and will remain a top performer and diversifier for investors' portfolios."
Research conducted by Clerical Medical Assetwatch found that commodities were the top performing asset class in 2007, providing an average return of 20.6 per cent.
