Komodity silnejú

Komoditný sektor mal celkom pozitívny výkon od začiatku roka 2008.

Gold advanced towards the $1,000 per troy ounce level while oil hit a record above $103 per barrel and agricultural commodities also achieved new price peaks.

Commodity prices, measured by the Reuters/Jefferies CRB spot index, have jumped 15.1 per cent since January 1, the strongest start to any year since the index was created in 1956.

Credit Suisse highlighted an “unusually co-ordinated and vertical ascent” for commodity prices and suggested this might be due to recent blizzards in China resulting in a short-term surge in imports of a wide range of commodities, including coal, wheat, copper, aluminium and steel.

Credit Suisse warned: “Given the size of the recent price spikes across commodities and the disruptions being caused, we think it dangerous to assume commodities are a one-way proposition. Expect more volatility, but some of it could be to the downside as well as the upside.

“The weakening dollar is increasing gold’s appeal as an alternative investment, which has prompted a wave of fund buying interest as investors search for a safe haven to protect the value of their portfolios,” said analysts at Standard Bank.
