Prices of oil, gold and several metals may be off their recent highs, but no one is willing to wager that they will stay at these levels.
The correction, most people believe, will be shortlived.
Arvind Mahajan, executive director, KPMG believes that over the next few years, the higher portion of incremental demand will emanate from emerging markets.
Si Kannan of Kotak Commodity Services: “Investors have been booking profits, but demand should bounce back, especially in countries like India, when the wedding season sets in.”
Kannan feels that prices will stabilise around $900 in the next three to four months. Moreover, gold prices have also been impacted by the strengthening of the US dollar against other currencies.
However, with the US economy expected to remain weak, the dollar should weaken again, thereby driving up gold prices again.
