I was just thinking this might be what many of us in the gold camp have said would happen in a deflationary recession/depression-remember? Gold would initially sell-off...then the realisation would set in that all currencies and all economies were in trouble-in the 1930s they couldn't buy gold but gold stocks soared.
Now traders are just switching currencies--they think the dollar is the place to be-the next "play"- but we've always known the Euro was just as problematic as the dollar--so this may just be the lull before the long awaited panic into gold as a currency safe haven, not necessarily an inflation hedge, as the assumed "the worst is behind us" in the U.S. proves not to be true. Could this fall be 1979-1980 all over again?
