Iran on Wednesday proposed a plan to supply oil and gas to Europe via Bulgaria.

Iran’s former President and Head of Expediency Council Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani proposed the new plan during his talks with Solomon Passy, head of Bulgaria's parliament foreign policy commission, here on Wednesday.

Rafsanjani said "as a gate to Europe, Bulgaria can play a major role in promotion of Iran's economic relations, particularly in the field of transferring the country's oil and gas to the continent,”.

Stressing the significance attached by Iran to promotion of bilateral ties with Bulgaria, the cleric said that further cooperation between the two capitals could benefit their mutual interest.

However a statement issued by Bulgarian embassy in Tehran said the country is yet to consider the new proposal and would take this matter to its parliament next month.
