Predpokladá sa, že výška amerického dlhu sa v roku 2015 dostane na úroveň US$19,6 bilióna. V súčasnosti na zväčšovanie dlhu vplýva ekonomické spomalenie krajiny, vládna pomoc pre WS, rôzne ekonomické stimuly a výdavky na vojnu v Iraku a Afganistane.
The U.S. debt will top $13.6 trillion this year and climb to an estimated $19.6 trillion by 2015, according to a Treasury Department report to Congress.
