"I am hopeful that you know the real reason that gold and silver went down so dramatically this last week," writes one reader, responding to the giant commodity sell-off over the past few days.

"Both markets are manipulated by the cartel of investment banks at the direction of the U.S. government. At the risk of appearing to shout, I would add to the previous sentence, ABSOLUTELY AND BEYOND ANY SHADOW OF A DOUBT. I have followed these markets now for about five hours a day for the last six years. Silver, in particular, has a near permanent short position that totally dwarfs the short position of ANY other commodity.

"As I say, I hope you are aware of the truth of this assertion as opposed to all the other palaver put out by the apologist media. If you are aware, I can understand why you might not say so very directly. It smacks of 'tin foil hat conspiracy' theory.
