PLATINA - nové maximum

Obavy z možného deficitu ponuky vynieslo cenu platiny na nové maximum $2170,50/oz.

Platinum rose to a record in London for a 14th consecutive day on concern that power cuts in South Africa will worsen a supply shortage. Palladium climbed to the highest since 2001 and rhodium reached a record.

Platinum supply may fall 479,000 ounces short of demand this year, compared with a deficit of 265,000 ounces last year, Investec Securities said in a report today. That's equal to almost 7 percent of demand. The bank increased its 2008 forecast for the metal used in auto catalysts and jewelry by 29 percent.

``High platinum prices will be supported by a growing deficit, driven by supply shortages from South Africa,'' Rebecca O'Dwyer, a London-based analyst with Investec Securities, said in the report. South Africa mines 78 percent of the world's platinum, according to Johnson Matthey Plc.

Platinum for immediate delivery advanced as much as 2.9 percent to a record $2,170.50 an ounce and traded at $2,154.50 as of 12:20 p.m. in London.
