Globálne napätie, inflácia a slabnúci dolár môžu v tomto roku vyniesť cenu zlata na $1000/oz.

Inflation fears, global tensions and a further weakening of the dollar could drive the gold price to $1000 per ounce later in 2008, leading global metals and commodity analysts have said.

"The market is now in a corrective stage, with gold breaking from its recent high of $942 down to under $900 on COMEX a week ago. This illustrates the severity of the degree of correction in this market," Purpura said. Gold was trading at $918.70 in London before the weekend.

"The market remains in a long-term bullish technical situation, and given the length of the current bull market, and the severity of the corrections we have seen over the past year, mixing in an options strategy with one's long-term position taking would be prudent," he said.

"From a fundamental supply and demand view, this market is demand driven, although recent supply disruptions from South Africa due to the power crisis there which has affected prices," he said. China is expected to increase production again in 2008 and solidify its standing as the top global producer.

"Each investor contemplating gold should evaluate its appropriateness in his or her's portfolio. One's risk tolerance and financial situation should determine to what degree one participates in the gold market. I believe that gold should play a role in one's overall investment plan. Unfortunately, everyone's situation is unique and there is no one-size-fits-all solution. That is what makes any kind of investing or trading challenging," he said.
