ZLATO - $1000/oz vraj už čoskoro

Cena zlata na ceste k tisícke môže dosiahnuť úroveň $900 skôr, ako si myslíme. Populácia začína zisťovať riziko spojené s papierovými peniazmi.

The price of gold may top $900/oz and head towards the psychological four-digit level, and sooner than expected, as oil trades at record prices and investors seek refuge in commodities, a Toronto-based gold analyst said last week.

“We really are in an unusual situation,” the analyst, who asked not to be named, said in an interview.

“People are looking at paper-backed assets and starting to wonder more about the risks attached than ever before.

“And, while investors across the board are displaying a high risk aversion, at the same time, they are... the market is looking for heroes,” he commented.

Gold surpassed its highest level ever this week, to reach $868/oz, after gaining more than 30% in value during 2007.

The previous high was set in January 1980, when the spot price of gold was fixed at a record of $850/oz. “With $850 cleared, gold could quite easily find further upside momentum as the background picture of geo-political tensions and unstable financial markets attracts safe-haven seeking investors,” James Moore, an analyst at TheBullionDesk.com, wrote in a research note on Thursday.

“Resistance is expected at $860/875 and $890 in the coming sessions but given the current climate gold could easily reach $900 before more substantial resistance emerges.”

The Toronto analyst predicts that the $1 000/oz level will likely be reached this year.

“I think we can probably expect to see it bump up against $1 000/oz, and if that does happen, I would imagine it could happen very quickly,” the analyst said.

“If you consider that, and the market decides it is heading that way, there is a reasonable expectation that the gold price could exceed the thousand-dollar-an-ounce mark,” he said.

Another gold analyst declined to comment on the short-term outlook for the yellow metal, citing the “unusual situation” for his hesitation.
