MMF uviedol, že sankcie na finančný a ropný sektor Iránu uvalené USA a EÚ spôsobia nárast ceny čierneho zlata o 20-30%. Irán je piatym najväčším ťažobcom ropy a zastavenie dodávky spôsobí výpadok 1,5 mil barelov za deň.
