Investície do komodít porastú

Investície do komoditnej oblasti, (obzvlášť kovy a agri ) sa v roku 2008 zvýšia. Dôvod – bezpečné útočisko v turbulentných časoch.

Investment in commodities is set to rise in 2008, led by metals and agriculture, as cooling economic growth prompts money managers to switch to the best-performing assets, according to Societe Generale SA.

``If we have an economic slowdown, commodities across the board are perceived as having a safe-haven value,'' Jean-Pierre Jentile, director of soft commodities at the bank, said in an interview at the Kingsman Fourth Dubai Sugar Conference. ``We'll see more and more capital going into these markets.''

$175 billion last year, the second-biggest expansion ever, Barclays Capital said.

``Because of the influence of India and China's growth, the markets are rather bullish,'' Jentile said. ``Metals will extend their movement to the upside.''

Economic expansion in India and China, the largest consumer of steel, copper and nickel, is feeding demand for commodities across the world. Indian cooking-oil imports may jump 15 percent in the 12 months ending Oct. 31, from a year before, according to a survey of six traders and analysts by Bloomberg last month.

Among agricultural commodities, Jentile predicts the greatest gains for coffee, cocoa, grains and soyabeans, because of supply shortages caused by drought and competition for land use from other crops. Coffee and cocoa may gain as much as 10 percent this year, he said.

``The reaction time for coffee and cocoa is longer than for cereals and cane,'' Jentile said. ``That's why it's easier to be bullish.''

A surplus of sugar production, higher inventories and freight costs may push prices for the commodity lower, he said.
