It is in the interest of consumers and farmers'' associations to apprise themselves of the truth behind global food scarcity and price rise. Ask this question: if there is food shortage, why are our farmers in poverty? It is not because of production loss.
There is global shortage of food. India is experiencing shortages as indicated by price rise of all food items. This is despite a healthy production in 2007 and forecast 32 million tonnes additional production for 2008 by International Grain Council (IGC).
